Alberta Friday, age 99, of Albia, passed away on February 27, 2018, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Alberta was born on April 22, 1918, in Lockman, Iowa to Quincy and Levada (Moyle) Caudill. She graduated from the Albia High School with the Class of 1937. She married Willie G. Friday on Friday, February 23, 1939, in Unionville, MO. Alberta worked in stores and restaurants until Willie went into the Army. During his time of service, she worked at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. in Petersburg, Virginia. After Willies discharge, she worked for J.C. Penney for a while. Then she managed the office of Fridays Gas Company and also did alteration work for several stores in Albia until she retired in 1963. She loved to travel in the United States and many foreign countries. Alberta was an advanced collector of coins, gold, silver, and paper money, all of which she has since sold or given away. Alberta is survived by a sister, Ethel (Joe) Lahart of Albia; a host of nieces and nephews; and 4 special girls, sisters Maria Edwards and Calista Mills, and nieces, Jane Brock and Christina Frost, who spent much of their growing up years in Albertas home. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Willie; her parents, Quincy and Levada; sisters, Temperance Caudill, Myrtle Cardenzana, Zella Cruchlow, Mabel Tyrrel, and Betty Rose Stocker; brothers, Edwin, Harold, and Clair Caudill; 4 nieces, Geneva, Janice, Rose Ann and Nicki Caudill; and a nephew, Harold Heriford. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Tharp Funeral Home with Albertas family present throughout the day and evening to greet family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Lynda Carlson officiating. Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia. A memorial has been established to the Leisure Lounge in Albia where she had many meals with friends and relatives.
