Barbara Kay Woodard, 70, of Hedrick, died at 8:22 a.m. October 5, 2017 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
She was born January 25, 1947 in Ottumwa to Virgil and Dorothy Hart Sterling. She married Jim Hayworth and they had 2 daughters. They later divorced. She married Jim Woodard on August 27, 1993.
A graduate of Pekin High School in 1965, Barbara earned a degree in cosmetology from the Iowa School of Beauty. She was a beautician for 30 years, and took great pride in her profession.
She was a member of a pool league for 25 years. Barbara enjoyed helping her daughters showing horses and was a great guide and friend for her daughters. She cared for people and animals, loved her family and especially enjoyed being a grandma.
Surviving is her husband, Jim; 2 daughters, Shellie (Bryan) Long of Hedrick and Sonya Hayworth-Cooksey; 2 step-children, Beth Ann (Eddie) Winn of Phoenix, AZ and Tom Woodard of Ollie; 9 grandchildren, Brody, Bryce and Brock Long, Jacob Salisbury, Braxton Cooksey, Ethan Cooksey Chandler Stull, Cody Broduer and Dana Hammond; 3 great-grandchildren, Laden, Tegan and Marceline Hammond; a brother, David (Kathleen) Sterling of Batavia and a sister, Beverly Preble of Mountain Home, AR.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Joyce and two granddaughters, Bethanne Cooksey and Colbie Cooksey.
Her body has been cremated.
A time to celebrate her life will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (her pool day) at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Hornback officiating.
The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to establish a fund to assist those who suffer with rheumatoid arthritis.
