Bessie  Springer


Bessie Ella Springer, 93, of Ottumwa, died at 11:27 a.m. July 18, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
Bessie was born December 23, 1925 in Hancock, MN to Percy L. and Myrtle Ivy Sandafer Dage. She married Edwin Eugene Springer on September 29, 1947 and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1993.
Bessie had been a resident of Ottumwa since 1944. She had worked as an aide at Ottumwa Manor and as a janitor at John Deere Credit Union and John Deere Union Hall.
Bessie was an excellent seamstress having made two wedding dresses for her family. She enjoyed gardening and genealogy.
Surviving are her children, Roselene Ann Springer of Toledo, IA, Marguerite Janice (Kenneth) Smith of Ottumwa, Diane Jane (Mike) Aldrich of Milton, FL and Dean Edwin (Mary) Springer of Des Moines; 7 grandchildren, Ninette (Ed) Mangrum, Patricia (Kevin) Rehard, Jeannie (Cavin) Sanders, Marcus (Pam) Springer, Leroy (Angie) Stansberry and Janise (Todd) Hurley, Shane (Holly) Manning; 14 great-grandchildren: 7 great-great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by two children who died in 1974 in a house fire, Priscilla Jean Springer and Dennis Wayne Springer; 4 brothers, Lawrence Oliver, Harold Leroy, Gilbert Lee and Floyd Ray Dage.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery near Albia.
Visitation will be open at 1 p.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home. The family will be present one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
