Betty D. Forbes, 91, of Ottumwa, died at 11:15 a.m. February 16, 2018 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was born August 21, 1926 in Ottumwa to Curtis Boyd and Nella Acel Wheeler Leedom. She married George F. Boone Jr. Betty later married Rev. Milton H. Forbes on January 6, 1971 and he preceded her in death on October 29, 2008.
Betty was a graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1944 and a graduate of the Iowa Success School. She was a homemaker and had worked at John Deere Ottumwa Works.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she had played the organ and had been a Wapello County and a State Officer in King's Daughters. She taught swimming and had been a lifeguard at the YWCA.
Surviving is her daughter, Kimberly Boone (Gary) Gale of Mesa, AZ; 2 step-daughters, Gloria Forbes and Barbara (Jim) Bower both of Ottumwa; 2 grandchildren, Joseph C. (Linda) Granneman of Rockford, IL and Leslie Granneman (Tony Merry) of Mesa, AZ; 4 step-grandchildren, Randy Leedom of Floris, Teresa Thorne of Ottumwa, Tina Jones of Phoenix, AZ and Tammy (Ray) Raman of Ottumwa; 3 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Henry of West Des Moines.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jane Martinez officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
