Betty Jo's Story
Betty Jo Gatlin, 80, of Ottumwa, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 10:05 a.m. November 3, 2017 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
Betty was born December 19, 1936 to Clair and Mabel Milam Ripley of Douds, IA. She married George Gatlin May 19, 1956 and they lived in Ottumwa.
She had worked at several jobs throughout the years; Johnson AMC, Vaughn Automotive, John Collins Auto Body and H&R Block before retiring to enjoy her grandchildren
Betty loved spending time with her grandchildren and teaching them how to make "her" homemade noodles.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Surviving is her husband, George; four children, Cheryl (Greg) Frost of Mercer, MO, Steven (Jerilyn) Gatlin, and Cynthia (Nick) Grooms both of Ottumwa, Michael (Brenda) Gatlin of New London; a daughter-in-law, Kim; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a sister, Ann McClure of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Randy; six brothers, George, Henry, Junior, James, Robert and Donnie; four sisters, Ida Levis, Rose Wright, Buelah "Boots" Keast, Darlene "Dot" Bradfield.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will begin 10 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties, 927 Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, IA 52501
