Beverly "Grams" Ware, 77, of Carroll, formerly of Ottumwa, died October 1, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born December 28, 1939 in Ottumwa to V.R. and Wilda Lester Smith. On December 19, 1959 she married her high school sweetheart, Charles "Chuck" Ware in York, NE. He preceded her in death on February 11, 2009.
She spent her younger years in the Ottumwa community and graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1958.
After Chuck was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force, the couple returned to Ottumwa and operated the A&W Drive-In until 1978. In 1979 they moved to Carroll when they purchased Carroll Bowl, a business the family operates to the present day.
She was a long-time volunteer at New Hope Village in Carroll. Bev enjoyed sewing, cooking, bowling, entertaining, camping and making people laugh. Most of all Bev enjoyed the time she spent spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her sons, Ken (Linda) Ware and Rod (Pam) Ware both of Glidden; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) Puffett, Stacy (Keith) Bauer, Dawn Ware, Jon (Kimberly) Ware, Erica (Tim) Smuck and Matthew Ware; 8 great-grandchildren, Keaton, Kylie, Kiana, Cody, Randy Brittany, Ali Jo, Pierceton; her siblings, Bob Smith of Las Vegas, NV, Bonnie Stufflebeam of Ottumwa and Butch (Lila) Smith of Knoxville; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Jessica Ware; her siblings, Bill Smith, Barbara Heckart, Brenda Leach and Betty Davis.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 3 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for bowling scholarships.
