Bobby  Buffington


Bobby L. Buffington, 86, of Indianola, formerly of Ottumwa, died June 10, 2019 at home.
He was born October 6, 1932 in Ottumwa to George Dewey and Dorothy Edith Walker Buffington. Bobby married Nancy Fern Gwin on February 6, 1962 in Inglewood, CA and she preceded him in death on March 31, 2011.
Bobby served in the U.S. Army for 4 years having served in Korea and was a decorated veteran. He lived in California for several years where he worked as a postal carrier. Moving back to Ottumwa, Bobby worked at John Deere Ottumwa Works from 1966 to 1994 and then for Secrus retiring in 2010. He moved to Indianola in 2013.
Bobby was a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, spending time with his neighbors, staff at HyVee pharmacy and most importantly with his family.
Surviving are two sons, Bobby J. (Corrina) Buffington of Ottumwa and Billy J. Buffington of Indianola; two daughters, Merrie E. (Ric) Rominger of Lake Rathbun and Deborah K. (Bruce) Moore of Libertyville; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Chad) Matchie, Clay Rominger, Christian Buffington and Colton Buffington; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Blair Matchie.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Shaun Lee Buffington and Lucinda Marie Smice; daughter-in-law, Tracey Buffington; a sister, Dorothy Weirbach; three brothers, George, Russell and Charles Buffington.
His body has been cremated.
Military services and inurnment were held Friday at Ottumwa Cemetery conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity Point Hospice or Disabled American Veterans.
