Bonnetta Fay Poli, age 100, formerly of Centerville, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa.
Bonnetta was born on February 13, 1918 in Sewal, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy and Nancy (Liggett) Zimmerman. She graduated from Sewal High School in 1935. She married John Trimble. They were the parents of two daughters. They later divorced. In 1965, she was united in marriage to Albert Poli in Unionville, Missouri, and together the couple moved to Promise City. She moved to Centerville in 1991.
She worked as a school cook, did custom wallpapering, and was a nurse's aide. She always assisted with a large garden, freezing, and canning. She was an excellent cook, and excelled at her fudge and divinity. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She loved to paint, gardening, and landscaping. She was fond of listening to old country music, and especially enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Kay Gomez of Ottumwa; granddaughters, Kelley Engstrom of Des Moines, Linda Lopez and Sandra Atkins; great grandchildren, Daniel Engstrom (Fiancé, Megan Sawyer) of West Des Moines, Emmanine, Jessica, Walker, David, and Daniel; great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers in law.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Poli; her daughter, Patty Carlson; sisters, Margaret Witte, Virginia Sell, infant Lucille; a brother, Carol Zimmerman; and a grandson, James Sharp.
Graveside services will be held at Confidence Cemetery, in Confidence, Iowa on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 11:30AM. A visitation will take place Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 10-11AM. A memorial has been established to the Bonnetta Poli Memorial, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
