Brooks Darner Martin Brooks Darner, 99, formerly of Ottumwa died at 1:05 a.m. December 1, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born March 2, 1919 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Phillip and Leta Hiatt Darner. He married Eva Mae Deutschle on September 1, 1950. She preceded him in death April 9, 1994.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1938, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Brooks worked construction then worked for 21 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works retiring in 1984.
He attended First Church of the Open Bible for over 60 years.
Surviving are a son, David (Julee) Darner of Iowa City; a daughter, Roxana (David) Maggrah of Milk River, Canada; two grandchildren, Christina (Jake) Soll of Johnston and Kellee (Elliott) Frey of Des Moines; three great grandchildren, Silas Soll, Stella Mae Soll and Briar Lou Soll.
He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Bailey and a sister, Mary Williamson.
Visitation with the family present will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Memorials may be made to Assemblies of God or Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
