Charles Dean Pitman


Charles Dean Pitman, 86, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on June 10, 2019 at his home. He was born October 3, 1932 in Belknap, Iowa to Charles C. and Golden L. Spangler Pitman. He married Phyllis Leonard on October 12, 1952. Phyllis passed away in 1981. On November 27, 1981 he married Barbara Strait in Bloomfield.

Dean served in the Army during the Korean War and was proud to serve his country. He was a farmer and contractor. He was also a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church and Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Pitman; son, Charles E. Pitman of Cabot, Arkansas; daughter, Deanna Pitman of Biloxi, Mississippi; two step-sons, Michael Strait of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Curtis Strait of Prior Lake, Minnesota; step-daughter, Teresa Roberts of Ottumwa, Iowa; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step great-grand-children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Richard Strait; brother, Don Pitman; and an infant sister.

Dean's wish was to be cremated. Private family burial of the cremated remains will be at the IOOF Cemetery at a later date. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is assisting the family. Online condolences may be directed to
