Chris  Piper


Chris Cody Piper, 64, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on January 30, 2019 at his home. He was born October 26, 1954 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Donald G. and Dorothy Jane McCord Piper. He graduated from Davis County High School in 1973 and later that year married Marla Cay Hershey on October 27. The couple raised three children, Holly, Sadie, and Luke.

Chris owned Piper Auto Salvage in Bloomfield for 30 years with his brother before turning his attention to farming and raising pigs full time. He loved being a farmer and taking care of the daily chores with his son and dog, Gabby Joe. He enjoyed fishing, hunting for arrowheads and mushrooms, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Pulaski Mennonite Church.

He is survived by his wife, Marla Piper; two daughters, Holly Logan of Des Moines, Sadie (Michael) Lee of West Des Moines; son, Luke (Regan) Piper of Bloomfield; eleven grandchildren (including three sets of twins) Adeline, Isabel, John, and Elliot Logan, Zoey, Mary, Olivia, and Delaney Lee, Dani, Ruby, and Oriole Piper; two sisters, Mary (Bryan) Poulter of Colfax, Iowa, Jane (Kevin) Snodgrass of Clive, Iowa; and a brother, Bruce (Marilyn) Piper of Bloomfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastors Darrell Zook and Dave Schooley officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 2-4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Chris remained in his home as he battled ALS. The love and support from his family, friends, and neighbors allowed him to do so. Chris and family are truly grateful to you all for helping make that possible. Thank you to everyone that came by the house to talk and spend time with Chris.
