Clifford's Story

Clifford Elvin "Cliff" McCarl, 89, left his earthly home and entered his Heavenly home on January 25, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories officiated by Pastor Dave King. Visitation will take place from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Stateroom. Entombment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of seventy-one years, Irene; children: Dr. Elvin (Diana) of Ottumwa; Marvin (Joyce) of Ottumwa; Pamela (Bill) Kennon of St. Louis, Missouri; Mark (Karen) of Charlotte, North Carolina; eight grandchildren: Todd (Kim) and Eric (Tammie) McCarl; Kris (Ralph) McConaughey; Patty (Nate) Tigges; Tarah (Jason) Fowler; Bryan Kennon; and Jesse and Melissa McCarl; as well as twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Bessie McCarl; two sisters: Louise McCarl and Doris Glazebrook; brother-in-law Perry Glazebrook; and nephew Donald Glazebrook.
Clifford was born on a farm near Grand River, Iowa to Pete and Bessie (Woods) McCarl on July 12, 1927. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Irene Coffey on May 27, 1945.
He worked as a supervisor for John Morrell and Co. for twenty-two years until the plant closed in 1973. Most of those years he lived in Ottumwa, and spent some time in Chariton. He and his family, those still at home (Pamela and Mark), relocated in Marion. He then became a supervisor at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids. After fifteen years, he retired.
He taught adult Sunday school classes for the Nazarene Church for over fifty years, some in Chariton, then some in Ottumwa, and the final years at Oakland Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids.
Cliff and Irene traveled much and reached their goal of visiting all fifty states.
