Daniel Carl Miller, 67, of Hedrick, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 7:50 a.m. February 24, 2018 at his home.
He was born November 17, 1950 in Ottumwa to Carl H. and Crete Elizabeth Finn Miller.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1970 he served in the U.S. Army for 4 years and the U.S. Army Reserves for 20 years. He worked for Sieg Auto Parts and at Douds Stone.
Dan grew up in Wildwood Evangelical Church and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Sac & Fox Lapidary and Rock Club, enjoyed photography, fixing tools and traveling in the western United States. He was a "shade tree" mechanic and enjoyed sharing his sense of humor.
Surviving are two daughters, Patrice (Jon) Blankenship of Gardner, KS and Mitzi (William) Risetter of Kansas City, MO; 4 grandchildren, Matthew, Jacob and Ashlyn Blankenship and Reed Risetter; two sisters, Penny (Jon) Ryan of Wheaton, IL and Dannette (Mark) Cunningham of Waukee; a brother, Mark (Cindy) Miller of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Matthew and Harriette Carr; and his aunt-in-law, Edith Reed.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation will start at 11 a.m. Friday with the family present one hour prior to the service.
His body will be cremated after the services.
Memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
