Richard C. "Dick" James, 87, of 102 W. Finley died at 10:10 p.m. November 3, 2017 at Pella Regional Health Center in Pella.
He was born April 21, 1930 in Corning, IA to Clarence L. and Mildred Irene Spring James.
He married Ellen Y. "Bonnie" Turner April 16, 1966. She preceded him in death March 22, 2012.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1948, he served in the U.S. Army. For 34 years he owned and operated several gas stations including James and Son Amoco Station on East Main St., retiring in 1992.
Surviving is a son, Richard A. (Ruth) James of Albia; four daughters, Brenda (Geoff) Wilson of Ottumwa, Kim (Dave) Church of Des Moines, Mickey (Larry) Stultz of Washington and Bonnie James of Portland, OR; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Scully; a son, Benny Charles James; a great grandson, Cody Neubauer; four brothers, Clifford, Gordon, Edward and Terry James.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Nancy Reed officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to Welcome Home Soldier Memorial in Albia.
