Donald Irwin Patton, age 89, of Albia, died on Friday, June 30, 2017 at his residence in Albia, under the care of HCI Hospice, with his loving family by his side. He was born on December 20, 1927 to Robert and Elsie (Tedford) Patton.
He farmed and retired from John Deere Ottumwa Works in October of 1987. He served two terms on the Albia School Board. He married Doris Vlaswinkle in Albia on June 4, 1948. They were blessed with three children: Stephen, Debra, and Brad.
Survivors include his wife Doris Patton of Albia; children, Stephen (Connie) Patton of Apache Junction, AZ, Debra Illingworth of Indianola, Brad (Denise) Patton of Albia, seven grandchildren, one step grandchild, seven great grandchildren, and six step great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary (Richard) Harper of San Francisco, CA, and dear life long friends, Henry and Dolores Fynaardt of Oskaloosa. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Elsie Patton; sisters, Helen Taylor and Mildred Shepard, brothers, Harold and Charles Patton.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia with Rev. Roger Henry officiating. Burial will follow services in Oak View Cemetery in Albia. A funeral Luncheon will be served following the burial at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, opening to the public at 1:00 p.m., and family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday evening.
