Edward Wade "Eddie" Genochio, 51, of Ottumwa, passed at 4:10 p.m. April 5, 2017 at Ridgewood Specialty Care from pneumonia related complications..
Eddie was born April 6, 1965 in Ottumwa to Edward P. and Sherry Johnson Genochio.
A lifelong citizen of Ottumwa, Eddie graduated from the Ottumwa High School Special Education Program in 1985 and worked at Tenco Industries through his supervised living at Crest Services. He was with Crest and Tenco until 2016 when his health forced a move to Ridgewood Specialty Care.
Having a fearless sense of adventure in his younger days, Eddie mastered the Ottumwa public transit system and traveled the city by bus, making friends throughout the town. He deeply loved music of all kinds ranging from The Ramones to Hank Williams, from Christmas carols to Bob Seger, from The Beach Boys to religious hymns, knowing the words to every song.
He attended the Church of the Brethren and enjoyed weekly church services and attended without fail until his health prevented it.
Eddie was blessed with many friends and protectors from all walks of life on his journey.
Eddie is survived by his father and step-mother Edward P. and Jeannette Genochio of Ottumwa; his mother and step-father Sherry and Kenny Campbell of Ottumwa; two brothers, Jerry J. and his wife Dawnnie Merado-Genochio of Kansas City, MO and Kelly D. Genochio of Pasadena, CA; two nieces, Tiffany Miller of Cedar Rapids and Viola Pete Genochio of Kansas City, MO.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Doud officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Monday with the family present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Crest Services, 226 W. Main St. #402, Ottumwa, IA 52501.
