Elizabeth Mae Jones, age 100, of Albia, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 9, 2017, at the Monroe Care Center in Albia. Elizabeth was born on July 20, 1916, in Monroe County, to J.W. and Nellie (Byerley) McGilvrey. She married Earl Jones on April 3, 1943, at the United Brethren Church in Albia. They shared 60 years of marriage prior to his passing on December 21, 2003. Elizabeth was a graduate of Albia High School. She was a homemaker and taught country school. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia and was very active within the church. She loved being outdoors, gardening and fishing. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking and loved to feed people. Elizabeth enjoyed visiting with people and never knew a stranger. Elizabeth is survived by her son, William (Judy) Jones of Albia; 3 grandchildren, Renae (Brian) Hindman, Marc (Naomi) Jones, and Mike Jones, all of Albia; and 5 great grandchildren, Nathan, Austin, Rechelle, Cody and Trent. Elizabeth is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Jones; her parents, J.W. and Nellie McGilvrey; and 5 siblings, Cleta Mahin, Mildred Clark, George McGilvrey, Margaret McKissick, and Hellen Bettis. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia, with Pastor Roger Henry officiating. Burial will follow the service at Union Chapel Cemetery in Monroe County. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Elizabeth's family present to greet friends and family from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Memorials have been established to the Trinity United Methodist Church or Union Chapel Cemetery.
