Floyd Charles Porter, 90, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away January 6, 2018 at the Bloomfield Care Center. He was born June 24, 1927 in Davis County, Iowa to Otto K. and Freeda Ritz Porter. He graduated from Bloomfield High School with the class of 1945 and joined the U.S. Army on April 17, 1946. While in the army, Floyd was stationed in Japan at a military hospital where he worked as a surgical technician.
On June 19, 1952, he married Margret Bolin in Fairfield, Iowa. The couple enjoyed 61 years of marriage and had two children, Roger and Pamela. Margret passed away on February 2, 2014.
Floyd sheared sheep for over 25 years and, along with farming, raised cattle, sheep, and hogs. He served on the ASCS Board and the FHA Board for many years. While not farming, he enjoyed bowling on Monday nights with men's league and trap shooting with his team at the Izaak Walton League.
He is survived by his son, Roger (Kathy) Porter of Bloomfield; daughter, Pamela (Ronald) Price of Bloomfield; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Glenn) Marshall, Jason (Sarah) Porter, Clayton (Megan) Price all of Bloomfield, Nathan (Kim) Price of Oskaloosa, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren, Tucker and Rylee Marshall, Kaden and Ella Porter, Carter and Hayden Price, Jalynn Price; brother, Otto K. Porter Jr; sister-in-law, Gereda Bolin; several nieces and nephews; and a good friend, Robert Leyda.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and three brothers, Wendell, Lowell, and Jack Porter.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Donna Olinger officiating. Burial with military rites performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday with the family present to greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
