Francis's Story

Francis C. White, 97, of Eddyville died at 3:35 p.m. February 28, 2018 at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospital.
He was born March 2, 1920 in West Grove, IA to Fred and Arminta Jarvis White. He married Emma Jane Myers November 27, 1949. She preceded him in death June 22, 1999. He married Blanch Kanselaar on October 15, 2005.
Having served in the U.S. Army during World War II, he left for Germany with 135 men with only twelve returning. He served in the European Theatre in the Battle of the Bulge having received the Silver Star serving with distinction.
He worked for 25 years at the Ottumwa Brick and Tile plant, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. He was a life member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion as well as Veterans of The Battle of The Bulge.
Surviving are his wife, Blanch; two daughters, Marjorie Ver Steegh of Eddyville and Mary Weber of Garwin, IA; 7 grandchildren, Jill, Clint, Clay, Jeff, Danielle, Sara and Jake; 15 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Donna (Don) Nord and Sue Flander both of Oskaloosa and a stepson, John (Meleia) Kanselaar of Beacon.
He was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Howard Ver Steegh and Steve Weber; a granddaughter, Faith and a stepdaughter, Janis Cook.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jon Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Chillicothe Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation will be open after 2 p.m. Sunday with the family present one hour prior to service on Monday..
