Frederick William Brandt III, 48, of Lucas, IA and formerly of Blakesburg passed away January 2, 2018 near Pella.
He was born January 23, 1969 in Ottumwa to Frederick William and Betty Jane Cox Brandt Jr. He married Kelly Kay Lamb May 26, 1995.
A graduate of Blakesburg High School in 1987, he attended Lincoln Technical Institute and became a Certified Diesel Mechanic. He was currently working as a truck driver for Duke Aerial Equipment in Des Moines. He was a volunteer firefighter for Floris, Blakesburg and Lacona Fire Departments and served as a Sherriff's Reserve for Wapello County.
Together with his wife, Kelly, they raised their two children and helped raise many nephews and friends. Freddy had the patience of none other. He loved teaching the kids new things and they always enjoyed learning from him because he was patient, kind and most of all funny. One never saw Freddy without a smile and he could make up songs for any occasion or situation. He used to drive his kids crazy by making up silly names for them. Then along came his grandchildren and he got to start that process all over again. His kids and pretty much all that crossed his path adored him and no one could give hugs like Freddy. His Furbabies were spoiled rotten by him.
He loved camping, fishing and hunting. Most of all he loved his life and everyone in it. To say Freddy is "humble and kind" describes him perfectly.
Surviving is his wife of 22 years, Kelly; two children, Brooke Lachelle (Dustin Finley) Miller of Ottumwa and Bradley William (Cassie) Miller of Drakesville; grandchildren, Austin Porter, Kazin Miller, Avalyn Finley and Shaley Finley all of Ottumwa; his parents, Fred and Betty Brandt of Blakesburg; a brother, Shawn (Lisa) Brandt of Ottumwa; a niece, Michaella Brandt; nephews, Michael Brandt, Shay Tripp, Schuyler Tripp, Clayton Hopkins, Dillon Lamb, Brian Clark and Kyle Clark; father-in-law, Wayne Lamb and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frederick William and Mary Ann Brandt Sr. and Robert and Cassie Cox; an infant sister, Tracy Lynn Brandt; his mother-in-law, Sherry Lamb.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastors Bob Neer and Jesse Elkins officiating. Burial will be in Blakesburg Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his family for his grandchildren's education.
