Gaynele's Story

Gaynele Sandeen, 95, of Ottumwa, died at 4:36 a.m. November 5, 2017 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was born April 7, 1922 in Monroe County to Fred and Hazel Fuller Sandeen.
A graduate of Albia High School, Gaynele attended William Penn College and Northeast State University. She worked one year for Monroe County schools, 5 years for Wapello County schools, 8 years for Blakesburg schools and 31 years at Agassiz Elementary.
She was a member of the Willard Street United Methodist Church and taught Adult Sunday School. She was also a district officer for United Methodist Women for 12 years, a member of Wapello County Retired School Personnel and had been a 4-H leader.
Surviving is her sister, Eva May Wallace of Ankeny; a sister-in-law, Joyce Sandeen of Blakesburg; nine nieces and nephews, John (Aleatha) Huff of Harvey, Tary (Pam) Huff of Moravia, Steve (Cathy) Huff of Florida, Tim (Rhonda) Sandeen of Blakesburg, Susan Sandeen of Des Moines, Mike (Linda) Wallace of Hot Springs, AR, Michelle Houser of Ankeny, Matt Wallace of Ankeny and Nick (Maia) Wallace of West Des Moines; 12 great nieces and nephews, Ryan (Audrey) Huff of Harvey, Josh (LeeAnn) Huff and Tiffany Huff of Knoxville, Jason Huff of Centerville, Tara Jo (Guy) Sample of Albia, Wesley Huff of Moravia, Scott (Jill) Sandeen and Eric (Julie) Sandeen of Blakesburg, Kenny Houser and Cheyenne Houser of Ankeny, James Wallace of West Des Moines and Ivy Mae Wallace of West Des Moines; 20 great great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Gayle Huff; a brother, Fred Sandeen; a nephew, Mark Sandeen; a niece, Becky Sandeen; a great nephew Chase Sandeen; two brothers-in-law, Bill Wallace and Gene Huff.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials may be made to Willard Street United Methodist Church or Cuba Cemetery.
