Irlin Gene Baskett, 70, of Ottumwa, died at 2:06 a.m. June 20, 2019 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born March 21, 1949 in Kirksville, MO to Olen Francis and Nellie Bessie Ziegler Baskett.
Gene moved to Ottumwa in 1955 and was a 1967 graduate of Cardinal High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years.
Gene worked at Pella Corp. for a short time and then worked 32 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works as a welder, retiring in 2011.
He enjoyed motorcycles and raced motorcycles in Japan when he was in the military. Gene was a member of Monroe County Saddle Club and enjoyed horses. He was involved with the Ottumwa Boxing Club and loved spending time with his grandkids.
Surviving are children, Kristopher C. Baskett of Ottumwa, John Baskett of Florida, Jeffrey Morris and Kelly Morris Padavich both of Ottumwa; 7 grandchildren, Talon, Courtney, Jessica, Mercedes, Dominique, David and Jaden; 2 great-grandchildren, Jersey and Kaylinn; 2 sisters, Irene Weber of Kirksville, MO and Ina Mary (Jessie) Young of Keokuk; 3 brothers, Isaac (Karen) Baskett and Imon Baskett both of Ottumwa, Ira Baskett of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by son, Robert Baskett; step-grandson, Neiko Morris; 2 sisters, Ival Snyder and Iris Koch; 2 brothers, Ivan Baskett and Irwin Dale Baskett.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with his nephew, Ivan Lee Baskett officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials may be made to Jacob's Gift or Monroe County Saddle Club.

He will be missed by many and reunited with many. Gene was and still is a caring and loving man who valued his children and grandchildren more then life itself. Bless you all! Until we meet again!

Hi so sorry to hear about Gene I met when prairie dogs Gene did like to shoot his firearms he was or is a nice man again I am sorry for the loss of Gene.
