Geneva's Story

Text size

Geneva Angeline Waybill, 93, of Moulton, Iowa passed away on March 1, 2018 at the Bloomfield Care Center. The angels Geneva so loved will have a hard time deciding if she should be a musical recruit for the angel band or pick up her needle to help design and create new garments and quilts. Music-making and using her talents as a seamstress and quilter were significant and well known to all who knew her.

Geneva was born on May 27, 1924 near Mark, Iowa to Gladis and Eulalia Dabney. She and her sister Lillian attended Bloomfield High School and graduated in 1941. She married Vernon Waybill on May 12, 1943 in Lancaster, Mo. After their marriage, they moved to the Waybill family farm West of Monterey. When Vernon joined the army in 1944, Geneva followed him to California and Texas but returned home when he shipped out as part of the allied forces of WWII. They eventually made their home on the Waybill farm where they raised their family. In the early 1960s, Vern and Geneva established a business in Moulton, Waybills Electric and Hardware. Vernon passed away in 1981 and Geneva eventually moved to Moulton.

She was an active member of the Moulton Christian Church and Community Organizations, serving in many leadership roles for more than 3 decades. She loved to travel and visited places far and wide from Alaska to Hawaii to Niagara Falls and many destinations unnamed. The numerous books of her pictures from adventures to far flung places show her love of people and love of new adventures.

She is survived by daughters, Sue Ann Forsythe of Moulton, Jo Ella (Steve) Hug of Missoula, Montana, and Marcia (Dennis) Bacon of Sheridan, Wyoming; two granddaughters, Jessica (Adrien) Lambert, Kara Bacon; two grandsons, Aaron (Kay) Forsythe, Jeff (Katrina Swope) Forsythe; great-grandchildren, Allison, Katie and Joshua Forsythe, Riley Lambert; step great-granddaughters, Tanikka and Taylinn Swope. Geneva will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladis and Eulalia Dabney; husband, Vernon Waybill; sister, Lillian Miller; one infant son, Darrell; and son-in-law, Steven Forsythe.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 on March 4 at the Moulton Christian Church, with the family present to greet friends until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 with Pastor Brian Hargrave officiating. Burial will be at the Burgher Cemetery south of Moulton, Iowa.

Genevas loved ones would like to thank the staff at Bloomfield Care Center for the quality of care and support they provided to her during this past year. Memorials in Genevas name can be made to the Moulton Christian Church. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at www.waglerfuneralhome.com.
