Gerald's Story

Gerald Bolin, 72, of rural Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on July 25, 2017 at his home surrounded by family. He was born November 15, 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Jesse Lowell and Nina Edith Wilson Bolin. He married Lois Jean Rogers on September 2, 1966 in Bloomfield.

Gerald was an outdoorsman and family man. He loved to take the family on trips camping, water skiing, kayaking, visiting amusement parks, and other various outdoor activities. He also enjoyed watching Professional Bull Riding in Des Moines, Iowa and Springfield, Missouri as-well-as on television. Although Gerald enjoyed his free time, he also really enjoyed working on the farm raising cattle and working in the hay fields. He also worked in the maintenance department at Everco in Ottumwa for over 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Bolin; son, Marty (Becky) Bolin of Bloomfield; two daughters, Marla (Tim) Hale of Floris, Iowa, Marcy (Eddie) Jones of Bloomfield; Grandpas Pals, Brittany Derby, Brooke Derby, Jalen Bolin, Skylar, Courtney, and Marissa Jones; a great-granddaughter, Kallie; five step-grandchildren, Chelsie, Andrea, Zach (Courtney) Hale, Kierstin Martin, Meredith Strunk; three step-great-grandchildren, Leland, Jenson, Rhett; two sisters, Betty (Eldon) Spurgeon of Eldon, Iowa, Benita Gideon of Ottumwa, Iowa; loving dog, Buddy; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Brenda Price, Bondeena Sample; and a nephew, Ronnie Rysdam.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2017 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Brian Hargrave officiating. Burial will be at the Sherman Chapel Cemetery in Davis County. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
