Gerald Reinier, 88, formerly of 137 S. Fellows, died at 2:22 p.m. November 4, 2017 at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.
He was born February 16, 1929 in Ottumwa to Clarence Lee and Marie Elizabeth Swaim Reinier. He married Katheryn M. Osborne on February 9, 1949. She preceded him in death January 11, 2005.
A graduate of Eddyville High School, he worked with his father as a painter as a side job as well as a carpenter. He worked 19 years for Milwaukee Railroad, at John Morrell and Co. and for 15 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works.
He was a social member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars, enjoyed hunting and walking his dog at the park.
Surviving are 5 daughters, Delores (Ron) Mills, Vicky Albright, Debra Townsend, Sheila Reinier and Geraldine (Jim) Wheaton all of Ottumwa; 7 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; 11 great -grandchildren; 5 step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter; a brother, Eugene Reinier and 2 sisters, Arlene Van Nest and Mabel Guthier.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Loyd Osborn officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
