Gus S. Pappaducas, 89, of Ottumwa, died on August 20, 2017 at his home.
He was born October 10, 1927 in Ottumwa to Steve and Zela Ruby Pappaducas. He married Patricia "Patti" Joyce Mitchell on December 5, 1952 and she preceded him in death on March 4, 2016.
Gus was a 1945 graduate of Ottumwa High School and was a World War II veteran having served with the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He owned and operated Washington Cleaners for over 40 years.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Gus and Patti enjoyed traveling in their RV during their retirement and spending time with family.
Surviving are a daughter, Lynne (Steve) Chmelar of Ottumwa; a son, Steve (Linda) Pappaducas of Urbandale; three grandchildren, Sarah (Marshall) Dias of Ottumwa, Jana (Fred) Klauke of Iowa City and David Chmelar of Ottumwa; a step- granddaughter, Julie Gray of Grimes; four great-grandchildren, Anora, Austin and Anika Klauke and Kamea Chmelar; three step-great-grandchildren, Jake, Owen and Olivia; three sisters, Dora Merrill of Ottumwa, Ethel Tharp of Madison, WI and Wanda Solon of El Paso, TX; a brother, Robert Pappaducas of Ottumwa; brother-in-law, Ray Modrell of Oskaloosa; sister-in-law, Joann Ellenberger of Pasadena, CA.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Modrell and a brother, Dan Pappaducas.
His body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church with Father Vincent Bete officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church.
