Harry Grant Holcomb, 83, died at 6:25 p.m. February 16, 2018 at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born January 14, 1935 in Douds to Dale Grant and Olive Irene Lagle Holcomb. He married Nannette Marie King on January 30, 1954.
A graduate of Douds Leando High School in 1952, he had served in the United States Army Reserves. He worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. from 1954-58 in Ottumwa, 1958-61 in Boone, 1961-62 in Mason City, 1962-63 in Ottumwa, 1963-65 as Store Manager in Adel, 1965-77 as Store Manager at the new store in Oskaloosa, and 1977-79 at the new store in Ottumwa. He also owned and operated H & H Tire in Ottumwa, worked 15 years for Farmer's Coop in Libertyville, delivering packages for FedEx, and 10 years for Wal-Mart in Ottumwa where he was known as "Harry the Paint Mixer."
Harry was known for driving his father's horse drawn school bus in Van Buren Co. while in his youth. He was an amazing storyteller, hard worker and loved his family very much.
Surviving is his wife, Nannette; two sons, Phillip Lee (Lola) Holcomb of Oskaloosa and Michael Glen Holcomb (Cindy Hewitt) of Agency; a daughter, Carolyn Jean (Doug) Weller of Agency; 5 grandchildren, Scott Higgins, Ryan (Amy) Higgins, Summer (Dan) Brice, Shane (Crystal) Weller and Brooke Weller; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Donna Ruth (Clifford) Mathias of Rochester, NY.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Melinda Ellen Holcomb.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor David Albert officiating. Burial will be in Leando Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agency Fire and Rescue.
