Harry's Story

Harry William Pilcher, 88, of rural Blakesburg, died at 10:06 p.m. on December 6, 2017 at home.
He was born May 15, 1929 in Davis County near Floris to Hugh B. and Mary Teague Pilcher. He married Phyllis Stater on May 29, 1957 at the North Court Baptist Church in Ottumwa and she preceded him in death on February 14, 2002.
Harry served with the U.S. Army in Korea for 2 years. He worked one year for Barker Poultry Equipment Co. and then for 44 years for Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric Co. as a welder, retiring in 1992 as well as farmed all of his life. He served as a 4-H leader for 10 years.
Harry had been a resident of the Blakesburg area since 1952. He joined the Bible Baptist Church in Floris in 1938, where he was a member for several years.
Surviving are his 2 sons, Doug (Marga) Pilcher of Ottumwa and Scott (Toni) Pilcher of Blakesburg; a grandson, Micheal (fiancée Ashley Harvey) Pilcher; 2 granddaughters, Amanda L. Pilcher and Morgan Pilcher (Michael Wilson); Kelly and Dean Deivers, who are the same as a daughter and son; very special friend, Marcene Pilcher; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Hugh Pilcher Jr.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Blakesburg Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
Memorials may be made to Care Initiatives Hospice in Albia.
