Howard E. Cudworth, 87, of Ottumwa, died at 7:20 a.m. September 6, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born September 2, 1930 in Ottumwa to William E. and Clara Krafka Cudworth. He married Patricia Ann McCormick on June 19, 1955 and she preceded him in death on December 8, 2012.
A 1948 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Howard had been a life long resident of the Ottumwa area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1954.
Howard worked as a carpenter for R.G. Smith & Son and also worked as Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds for Ottumwa Community schools for 17 years, retiring in 1987.
Surviving are two sons, Dan (Renee) Cudworth of Marion and David (Cheryl) Cudworth of Cedar Rapids; 6 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Gay; a brother, Bob Cudworth and a sister, Martha Rice.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Sunday. The family will be present one hour prior to the service on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
