James. M. Snook, 97, of Ankeny, IA formerly of Geneseo passed away Dec. 22, 2017 at his residence at Mill Pond.
Funeral services will be 10am Friday at Schroder Mortuary in Colona. Visitation will be 4-7pm Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Honor Flight.
James was born March 11, 1920 in Ottumwa, IA the son of James and Mabel Snook. He graduated from Ottumwa High School. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII and was able to take part in the Honor Flight in 2009. James married Betty J. Arnold June 7, 1941 in Lancaster, MO. She passed away in October of 1990. He worked as a business owner of Bill's Body Shop in Moline for over 30 years and farmed west of Geneseo. After his wife's death he moved to Iowa and lived on a farm outside of Moulton. James enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting and was an avid fisherman all of his life. He enjoyed watching all sports but especially the Cubs and was thrilled to live to see them win the World Series. Most importantly, he loved sharing all of his memories and life experiences with his family. He was very thoughtful, always remembering each family members birthday with a card or call, regardless of age.
Survivors include his children Jack (Marilyn) Snook of Colona, IA, Melvin (Angie) Snook of Geneseo, Carol (Arvid) Hagberg of Geneseo, Arnie (Carole) Snook of Ankeny, IA and Janine (Al) Erickson of Geneseo; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter and a special friend Fern Meeker.
James was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 brothers, sisters and 1 grandson.
