Janice LaRue Hobbs Sloan, 93, of Ottumwa, died at 4:28 a.m. January 26, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa
Janice was born at the Ottumwa Hospital on April 26, 1924 to Samuel Porter Hobbs and Lorna Birkett Hobbs. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1942 and was employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company before her marriage and again in 1951. Later she was a proof reader for the Ottumwa Courier for 11 years and also worked at the Wapello County Auditor's office.
She married Louis Richard Sloan on February 8, 1945 at First Christian Church in Ottumwa.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 72 years, Louis Richard "Dick" Sloan; a son, Richard (Leanne) Sloan of Ottumwa; a daughter, Kristy (Harold) Harden of Green Castle, MO; four grandchildren, Eric (Sandy) Sloan of Stratford, IA, Nicole (Jay) Stevens of Six Mile, SC, Dr. Wesley (Tanya) Harden of Rolla, MO and Dr. Matthew (Brittany) Harden of Kirksville, MO; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Forrest Hobbs and a sister, Joanne Harris.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Leila Disburg officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the family present one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lord's Cupboard, 202 E. Fourth St. Ottumwa, IA 52501.
