Jason Michael "Jay" Thode, 47, of Swansea, IL and formerly of Ottumwa died at 11:20 a.m. July 26, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born November 4, 1971 in Bloomfield to Michael and Debbie (Kapp) Thode. He was married to Dawn Thode having two children (Chaley and Corbin) and they later divorced. He was then married to Jamie Thode having two children (Jayden and Jenna) and they divorced.
Growing up in Ottumwa, he loved playing baseball and graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1990. He went on to play baseball for Missouri Baptist University where he graduated with degrees in Human Behavioral Science and Business Finance and Marketing in 1995. He worked in banking and finance throughout his career, most recently as Vice President of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability for Wells Fargo Bank in St. Louis.
Jay loved sports, especially coaching and watching his children play.
Surviving are his children, Chaley, Corbin, Jayden and Jenna Thode; his parents, Mike and Debbie Thode of Ottumwa; a brother, Chris (Leigh Ann) Thode of Celina, TX; two nephews, Caden and Colin; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Helen Thode and J. Max and Dorothy Kapp.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Patrick Hilgendorf celebrating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Ottumwa American Legion Baseball or to the family for Jay's children.

I am in total shock over hearing this. My deepest goes out to all of Jays family. I worked with Jay for many years at Citi as well as Countrywide!!! I am so sorry and I will miss him!!!

I am so sorry for your loss Jamie, Jayden and Jenna. I only knew Jay a short time but he was very generous and was great with his children. My prayers go out to his entire family. I wish I could have helped him more. Our family is here for you if you need us in Swansea.

I worked with Jay at Target. He was such a nice, sweet, helpful guy. Always said hello to me and was very helpful. I was so sad to hear about his passing. My heart hurts for you family but you are in my prayers!
