Jennie Louise Nord

March 12, 1955 - February 23, 2019

Jennie Louise Nord Jennie Louise Nord, 63, of Ottumwa, passed away at 2:22 am on February 23rd, 2019 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.
She was born on March 12th, 1955 in Ottumwa to James Arthur and Georgia Viola Beisker Riehm. She was a graduate of Cardinal Community School and of Central College in Pella. She was united in marriage to Ronald Wayne Nord. He preceded her in death on September 15th, 2016.
Jennie loved children and this showed in her years as a Foster Parent. She worked for 25 years for Sieda in Ottumwa. During her time with Sieda she worked with the Head Start Program working in the preschool classrooms with many children. She was also the Program Manager of their CACFP program for several years. In this position she was helping In-Home Daycare Providers, from eleven counties in Iowa, prepare and serve nutritional meals to the children in their daycares. In the spring of 2016 she left Sieda to be a Co-Provider in an In-Home Daycare and was still doing this at the time of her death. The children in the daycare loved their Grandma Jennie and are greatly missing her. Along with her jobs at Sieda and the daycare, she also worked for several companies as a Mystery Shopper. She really enjoyed traveling around and mystery shopping at different stores. When her boys were younger they would make a weekend of it, finding many fun things to do in the towns they traveled to.
Along with enjoying her mystery shopping trips, Jennie really enjoyed scrapbooking, reading, and putting together puzzles. She was always making cute scrapbook gifts for people and her favorite puzzles to put together were Thomas Kincade prints. Jennie also loved animals. She left behind three dogs, Mollie, Scooter, and Ralph; and her cats, Toots, Maynard, and Callie, who she loved very much.
Surviving is her son, Jeffery Nord of Ottumwa and a step-daughter, Stephanie Nord of Oregon; grand-daughters, Layla Manley-Nord of Des Moines and Araeya Nord of Ottumwa; step-grandson, Willow Mykelti of Oregon; and honorary grandsons, Xavier and Elijah Exline of Ottumwa; brothers Lyle Dee of Waukon, Randy (Jaque) and Ronald (Deb) both of Batavia; brother-in-laws David (Connie) Nord of Overland Park, KS, and Steve (Steva) Nord of Ottumwa; plus numerous other beloved family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers David and Gary, husband Ronald, and son Justice.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date after the winter weather is over and more people can attend. Because of Jennie's love of animals, a memorial has been established to the Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa. Those donations can be dropped off at their location in Ottumwa or mailed to P.O. Box 1149, Ottumwa, IA 52501. Please mention they are In Memory of Jennie Nord when dropping off or sending.

When I did childcare Jennie would come for CACFP visits, the kids and I enjoyed her visits, then I had the privilege working with her for around 14 years at Sieda. I feel so blessed to have known Jennie, I will miss her very much. But I know her family and close friends will miss her even more. My heartfelt sympathies go out to you.

Always loved her Sieda visits. My daycare kids just loved when she would come but my cats would get even more excited. She had a way with animals. They were drawn to her. You will be missed, my sweet friend! ❤
