Jerry Wayne Northup, 80, of Eldon, IA passed away Monday, June 12, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa, IA. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Eldon Christian Church with Brother David Bowden officiating. Visitation will be begin at 10:00 a.m. and last until the time of service. As were Jerrys wishes, his body will be cremated following the service with burial to be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Jerrys honor may be made to the Eldon Senior Meals. Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Jerry Wayne Northup was born January 11, 1937 in Troy, IA to Harry and Merle Ritz Northup. He grew up and attended school in the Eldon area. Jerry later met Mary Nell Bailey. The two began their life together as husband and wife in Eldon, IA on July 17, 1955. Together they became the loving parents of two children, Rick and Shelley. Jerry worked in road construction for many years for J.P. Strother Construction Company as well as working on the farm. He was a member of the Eldon Christian Church, and a past member of the New Hope Masonic Lodge 480 in Eldon. When Jerry had some free time he enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR. He also built and worked on several stock cars for his grandchildren to race. Jerry will be deeply missed by his family, and the many that called him friend.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Merle Northup; his father and mother-in-law, Dean Mac and Margaret Bailey; two sisters, Betty Jean and Carolyn; and their husbands, Wayne McClure and Larry Seodore.
Left to share his story is his loving wife, Mary Nell Northup; two children, Rick Northup of Marion, IA and Shelley (John) Blakeney of Washington, IA; four grandchildren, Ryan (Cassie) Northup, Shaun (Melinda) Northup, Aaron Trier, and Kyle Blakeney; three great grandchildren, Mercedes Northup, Mac Northup, and Beckett Northup, as well as many extended family and friends.
