Jerry Lee Spangle, 78, of 120 Miller Rd. Apt. 20 of Agency died at 1:40 p.m. February 22, 2018 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born on June 6, 1939 in Ottumwa to N. Alva and Fern Cloyd Spangle. He married Fran L. Slutts on November 30, 1962.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1957 he served in the US Air Force four years stationed in Germany, France and England. He received his Associate of Arts degree from IHCC. He worked 13 years at John Morrell & Co. until 1973 then worked as a printer in different places in Southeast Iowa, retiring in 1987. After retirement he worked at Wal-Mart ten years.
Jerry was an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He loved his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Fran; a daughter, Bambi Youngblood of Ottumwa; a son Jeff (Keitha) Spangle of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Chelsea Reeves of Ottumwa and Rindy (Lauren) Stalley of British Columbia; three great grandchildren, Xavier Reeves, Asyia Welch and Sophia Stalley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Tomi Stalley.
Military honors will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion at 4 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home. Visitation with the family present will follow until 7 p.m. His body will be cremated after the visitation.
Memorials may be made to the family.
