Jerry Lee Ware, 82, of 918 Hackberry St. died October 9, 2017 at Ridgewood Specialty Care.
He was born March 5, 1935 in Iowa City, IA to Roy Virgil and Georgia Ayers Ware. He married Donnalee Schultz November 15, 1955.
Growing up in Ottumwa, Jerry served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a truck driver, hauling whole milk, worked for John Morrell and Co., and worked 15 years at Lowenberg Bakery from where he retired.
He was a life member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving is his wife, Donnalee; three daughters, Michelle Garrett, Ramona (Cort) Wells and Valerie (Dennis) Morett; two sons, Billy Joe (Rose) Ware and Guy Merle (Melissa) Ware all of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Glosser and Betty (Dwayne) Proctor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Billie Gene Ware and Charles Delmar Ware; a son, Terry Lee Ware and a great grandson, Race Webster.
His body has been cremated. Military honors will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home followed by a time to celebrate his life until 7 p.m.
