James Thomas Hurley, 75, of 700 W. Alta Vista, died at 4:05 p.m. January 16, 2018 at Hospice House.
He was born April 7, 1942 in Davenport to Fred and Freda Fahrenkrog Hurley. He married Margaret Nott on May 14, 1983.
Growing up in Le Claire, IA, he had worked as a mechanic for Ottumwa Transit Authority and had owned and operated Hurley's Car and Truck Repair. While living in Davenport for 20 years, he worked on buses for Quad City Policy Group in Rock Island, IL. He lived in California for 4 years before moving back to Ottumwa in 2012.
He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Surviving is his wife, Margaret; 5 children, James (Teresa) Hurley Jr. of Ottumwa, Jaci (Bruce) Pedrick of Prescott, Jeannette (Craig) Hanchett of Oskaloosa, Jeri (Jim) Griffiths of Jacksonville, FL and Jesi (Robbie) Saylor of Ottumwa; 2 step-children, Tim (Kate) Burgess of Windsor, CA and Daniel (Heather) Burgess of Ottumwa; 19 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; a sister, Patsy LaBountey of Tennessee; 2 brothers, Pat Hurley of Fairfield and Fred Hurley of Lisbon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Bob Hurley and his twin, John F. Hurley.
His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating.
