James Edward Sloan, 77, of Ottumwa, died at 12:32 p.m. July 14, 2017 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
He was born September 20, 1939 in Wapello County to Thomas U. and Mary L. Orndorff Sloan. He married Jean Swaim Jones March 26, 1981. She preceded him in death February 1, 2003.
A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he had worked for John Morrell & Co. and Grooms Construction. He was a member of Construction Labor Local #566 AF of L.
Surviving are two brothers, Richard (Donna) Sloan of Hollister, MO and Joe (Debbie) Sloan of Urbandale; children, Jim, Tim and Cindy; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; his companion, Shirlene Conder.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Robinson and infant, Mary Sloan; three brothers, Tom, Jerry and David Sloan.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Chaplin Gary Brooks officiating. Cremation will follow the services.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
