Joseph Teno, 97, of Ottumwa died at 7:15 a.m. November 25, 2017 at Vista Woods Care Center.
He was born February 29, 1920 in Kirksville, MO to Mike and Mary Sisler Teno. He married Leona L. Randall September 17, 1949. She preceded him in death October 26, 1999.
Growing up in Avery, IA, Joe served in the U.S. Navy on a hospital ship during World War II. He worked 27 years at John Morrell and Co. Moving to Bettendorf in 1974, he worked 10 years for J.I. Case and then part time for the Bettendorf School System. He moved back to Ottumwa in 2000.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #114. Joe also enjoyed woodworking, gardening and especially spending time with his family.
Surviving are a son, Joe (Pat) Teno of Sibley, IL; two daughters, Cathy (Gale) Martz and Cindy (Gary) Smith both of Ottumwa; a son-in-law, Ray Weber of Beacon, IA; 9 grandchildren, Scott, Brett, Bryan, Brenda, Becky, Brent, Rob, Jenny and Barb; 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Weber; 3 brothers, Mike, John and George Teno; 3 sisters, Mary Tangie, Anna Arnold and Helen Teno.
Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Patrick Hilgendorf presiding. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home. A Christian Wake service will be held at 5 p.m. followed by visitation with the family present until 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
