Joel Donald Platt, 66, of Hedrick, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 7 p.m. March 10, 2018 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born April 19, 1951 in Fresno, CA to Charlie and Ruby King Platt. He married Kathy Lilley December 18, 1971.
A graduate of Kerman High School in Kerman, CA, Joel served 7 years in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Texaco Oil while living in California and for 5 years at Cargill Meat Solutions after moving to Iowa in 2001.
He was a wonderful husband and amazing father. He enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening.
Surviving is his wife, Kathy; three daughters, Tara (John) Miller of Bowling Green, KY, Erin (Clifton) Nichols of Killeen, TX and Deanna Rivera of Belton, TX; 8 grandchildren; a brother, Lewis (Gail) Platt of Taft, CA and a sister, Charlotte Williams of Fresno, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
His body has been cremated. No services are planned. Inurnment will be in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX at a later date.
