John Edward Amstutz, 102, of Bloomfield died Jan. 3, 2018 at the Bloomfield Care Center. He was born Dec. 14, 1915 to John and Delpha Lantz Amstutz in rural Davis County. He married Frances Elizabeth Schroeder on Feb. 8, 1941, in Palatine, Ill. Frances passed away on June 4, 2013. The couple spent their entire married life on the family farm southwest of Pulaski until they moved to Mulberry Place Assisted Living in 2007.
Ed was a true farmer at heart. He enjoyed raising livestock and farming the land with his wife and children at his side. He was a firm believer in implementing conservation practices and improving the land for the future generations of his family, who have continued his legacy in agriculture.
Ed and Frances were active members of the Pulaski Mennonite Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen (Ron Hewus) Spurgeon of Bloomfield; two sons, Dean (Sandra) Amstutz and Keith (Gail) Amstutz of Bloomfield; nine grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances; son-in-law, Gary Spurgeon; granddaughter, Shari Forsythe; sisters, Mabel Rogers and Wilda Amstutz; and brother, Donald Amstutz.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Pulaski Mennonite Church with Pastor Darrell Zook officiating. Burial will be in the Pulaski Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established to the Pulaski Mennonite Church.
