John Edward Mielke, 92, of Keosauqua, Iowa and formerly of Ottumwa passed away on May 11, 2018 at Keosauqua Health Care Center in Keosauqua. He was born on November 21, 1925 in Waconia, Minnesota to Gilbert William and Genevieve A. Lawrence Mielke. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1943. John married Darlene Virginia Parker on November 23, 1946 in Trenton, Missouri. Darlene was born in Keosauqua, Iowa and she passed away on August 9, 2008.
John served in the 101st Airborne Division Baker Company during World War II. After his honorable discharge he worked in sales and sales management primarily in the meat packing industry. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Izaak Walton League and the VFW.
He is survived by a son, Kurt (Gloria) Mielke of Keosauqua, Iowa; a daughter, Karla (Jim) Kincaid of Tucson, Arizona; a grandson, Max Mielke of Pella, Iowa; a girlfriend, Donna Carruthers of Ottumwa, Iowa; and a nephew, Joe Mielke of Panama City, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; a brother, William Mielke formerly of Panama City, Florida; and a sister, Nancy McGee formerly of Washington.
