John M. Montanaro, 79, of Ottumwa, died at 9:45 p.m. January 1, 2018 at Ennoble Skilled Nursing & Rehab in Dubuque.
He was born November 22, 1938 in Jersey City, NJ to Angelo "Charles" and Maria Parisi Mondanaro.
John was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Korea.
He had worked for Cargill Meat Solution, retiring in 2010.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Joseph, Antonio, Alfred, Louis, Charles and Vincente "Jimmie" Mondanaro; and a sister, Camille Iorio.
His body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Reece Funeral Home with Father Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
