After her marriage to David Brees on December 27, 1969, she was hired to be the Director of Nurses for Garden Grove Convalescent Hospital in Garden Grove, California. Shortly after moving to her current address in Westminster, California in 1974, she joined the staff at the Long Beach Veterans Administration Hospital where she remained working primarily in nursing administration until her retirement in 2004. During her nearly three decades with the Veterans Administration, she was repeatedly cited for her outstanding contributions to health care for veterans including a comprehensive study to prevent falls that was implemented throughout the entire V A health care system. Judy was recognized for exemplary service with a special commendation from Max Clelland who was the head of the entire V A Health Care System at that time. While working at the V A, she attended night and week end classes to complete her B S N degree from the University of Phoenix.
Judy tried very hard to maintain a healthy balance in her life including her spiritual life. Until her health failed, Judy never missed Sunday mass. She was a faithful member of St. Barbara's Church in Westminster where she served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister. For over four decades she was an active member of the Moose Lodge and the California Association of Nurses. She was also a much valued auxiliary participant in the Newport-Mesa Federation of Retired Teachers Local 1794 and Division 77 of the California Retired Teachers
