Larry X. Keele of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away on September 10, 2017 in St.Luke's Inpatient Hospice after a lengthy illness. A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Village Co-op of Cedar Rapids, 1230 English Lane NE. on September 24, 2017. Gathering will begin at 1 pm and the service will begin at 2 pm.
Larry was born on December 25, 1938 in Little Sioux, Iowa. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1956, received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Omaha University and his PhD from the University of Iowa. He held a variety of positions in the field of education, including school psychologist, consultant for the State of Iowa Department of Education, Director of Special Education for two of Iowa's Area Education Agencies and taught undergraduate and graduate-level college classes part-time. He served on numerous boards and held many leadership positions throughout his working life.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith (Poe) and three of his four children, Kristen Arnold and her husband Mark St.Hilaire of Natick, Massachusetts, Mark Keele and his wife Peggy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Karen Keele Kober and her husband Scott of Solon, Iowa as well as eight grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Keva Hale, and his parents Elliott and Lorena Keele.
In lieu of flowers, suggested memorial donations are Southern Poverty Law Center or St. Luke's Inpatient Hospice of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
