Larry Joe Walker, 81, of Floris, Iowa passed away September 25, 2017 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. He was born May 11, 1936 in Davis County, Iowa to Guy and Georgia Fouts Walker. He married Wanda Archer on March 29, 1959 at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church. Wanda passed away on December 1, 2016. While Wanda was sick at area nursing homes, Larry visited her every day and would spend as much time as he could with her.
Larry worked as an over-the-road truck driver and also drove a school bus for Davis County Schools for 23 years. He loved being outdoors camping, fishing, hiking, and shooting guns. He was an avid black powder enthusiast participating in area shoots and rendezvous with several friends. In his quiet time, Larry enjoyed reading books and listening to music. He served in the United States Army and spent time in Korea and Germany during the 1950s.
He is survived by a brother, T.J. Walker of Victor, Colorado; nine nieces, and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two nieces.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Heath Jarvis officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Military rites will be performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Davis County Historical Society.
