Laura S. Nelson, of Ottumwa, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017 at the Haven at Sylvan Woods.
She was born on October 3, 1921 at Queen City, Missouri to Paul and Isabel Owens Shirley. She married Marvin S. Nelson on March 5, 1950.
She was a secretary for Dain Manufacturing (John Deere Ottumwa Works) and the office manager for Strawhackers Food Service.
She is survived by her children Phil (Cathy) Nelson of Maple Grove, MN and Linda (Michael) Ball of Oceanside, CA; grandchildren Jeff Nelson of Ramsey, MN, Angie (David) Weber of Becker, MN and Kendra (Storm) Anderson of San Diego, CA; great-grandchildren Morgan and Gavin Weber of Becker, MN and Daniel, Peyton, and Steele Anderson of San Diego, CA; sisters Stella Burras of Marshalltown, IA and Joyce (Marvin) Brooks of Knoxville, IA; brothers Robert (Shirley) Shirley of Billings, MT, Keith (Theresa Gene) Shirley of Wyoming, IL, and Charles Shirley of Mingo, IA and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin: her son, Randy Nelson; her sisters Jean Reinert, Esther Fisher, and Ruth Roemerman; and her brothers Lawrence Shirley and John Shirley.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa with Rev. Mark Johnson. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
