Eva LaVelle Kirby, 92, of Ottumwa, died at 6:45 a.m. August 16, 2017 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
She was born May 3, 1925 in Davis County to Raymond Edward and Eva Gladys Albright Burdett. She married Lyal Kirby on August 23, 1944 and he preceded her in death on January 30, 1992.
LaVelle retired from Ottumwa Community Schools food service in 1990 with 8 years of service.
She loved to crochet, camping, riding motorcycles and playing games, particularly card games. LaVelle was a member of the Holiday Ramblers camping club and she loved her home.
Surviving is her daughter, Linda (Gene) Wells of Ottumwa; 3 grandchildren, Melody (Lowell) Johns, Brenda (Eric) Jensen and Michael (Lindee) Thomas; 7 great-grandchildren, Tyler Johns, Paige Jensen, Seth Jensen, Mason Thomas, Jaxon Thomas, Walker Thomas and Lainee Thomas; a great-great-granddaughter, Brenlynn Swanson; her companion, Norman Burk; a special niece, Sherry Lopshire as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Kimberly Renee; a brother, Harold Burdett; and a sister, Hazel Downing.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Deborah Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
