Lewis Russell Horn, 68, of Drakesville, Iowa passed away on December 26, 2017 at his home. He was born August 20, 1949 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Russell Dean and Inez LaVelle Howell Horn. He graduated from Davis County High School in 1967 and served in the Iowa National Guard for six years.
Lewis was a member of the Iowa Quarter Horse Association and was active in racing and breeding quarter horses. He also enjoyed participating in rodeos, raising red angus cattle, and watching young calves. Lewis was active in FFA and was honored with the FFA Star Iowa Farmer Award and the FFA American Farmer Award. He had served on the Citizens Mutual Telephone Board and the Southern Iowa Electric Cooperative Board of Directors for several years.
He is survived by four siblings, LaDonna (Glen) Hanes of Bloomfield, Lois (Andy) Lamb of Jackson, Tennessee, Lonnie (Lisa) Horn of Aurora, Illinois, Layne (Anitra) Horn of West Des Moines; 10 nieces-and-nephews; 12 great-nieces-and-nephews; and special friends, Sheila Putnam and Rick Hopkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda Pettit.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with family present to greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until noon. No service is planned. Burial of the cremated remains will be at the Drakesville Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established to the Davis County FFA and the Fort Bloomfield Rodeo.
