Linden Thomas Meadows

Events

Linden Thomas (Tom) Meadows Jr. was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on February 4, 1930 and passed away quietly in his sleep, at his home in Palo Alto, CA on Sunday, June 16th at the age of 89.

He was the eldest of four children and the last surviving child born to Evelyn (Chance) Meadows and Linden (Pinky) Meadows Sr.

He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1948 and went to work for the Ottumwa Courier, where he had the opportunity to get a picture taken while meeting and shaking hands with the 33rd President of the United States, Harry S. Truman.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 - 1954 and during that time he married the love of his life, Delores Jean Campbell on August 19, 1951. He attended Vallejo Junior College in California, after his military service, and later transferred to San Jose State University in 1958, earning a bachelor's degree in Accounting. While at San Jose State University he became a member of the Alpha Beta Sigma, which is an honor society for accounting students.
After college graduation, he worked for many notable companies in the San Francisco Bay Area: Ampex, Fairchild, Lockheed, Varian, Coherent and Westinghouse from which he retired at the age of sixty-five in 1995.

Some of his passions included running, attending SJSU and Stanford sporting events, attending his Grandchildren's and Great-Grandchildren's sporting events. Dad was a coach and umpire for the Little League Baseball in Palo Alto, CA and was a member of the American Legion organization and Palo Alto Post #375 for over 40 years and received recognition for his years of dedication. Dad loved to go dancing. My mother and father's greatest passion was square and swing dancing with groups and especially friends.

He is survived by his three children: Craig Meadows, Clark Meadows and Cynthia Ahrendsen, five Grandchildren: Stephanie Ahrendsen, Megan Meadows, Jeffrey Meadows, Erin Meadows and Wesley Meadows, as well as two Great-Grandchildren: Emily Eveland and Wyatt Eveland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Delores Meadows, siblings; Robert Meadows, Max Meadows and Mary Lynn Johnson and his Grandson, Steven Ahrendsen Jr.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grand-father and great grand-father who was loved, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Burial services will be held in Ottumwa, Iowa at Shaul Cemetery with military services on Saturday, August 10th at 11:00 a.m. He will be buried next to his wife, Delores (Dee), (Campbell) Meadows who passed in May of 2008.
